(More customer reviews)This is a great way to add a wireless entry to your garage.I wish I had bought this 12 years ago when I moved into my house.I use it every time I do yard work.
There are two separate parts to this keyless entry.
One part is a signal receptor. It plugs into a standard electrical outlet inside your garage. This part makes a wired connection directly to your garage door opener or to the the push button switch that opens and closes your garage door. It should work with any opener that uses a two wire doorbell type switch. If you have a four wire switch, do some homework before you buy this.If you can find two of the wires that you can jump across and open the door, then this product should work for you. The signal receptor also has a short antenna wire that receives the wireless signal from the numeric keypad you install outside of your garage.
The other part is the numeric keypad. You simply screw it in place outside your garage somewhere. No outside wiring is required. The keypad is powered by two CR2032 Lithium batteries; replacements will be easy to find. The keypad does not communicate directly with the opener. It sends a wireless signal to the signal receptor which in turn sends a wired electric signal to the opener. The keypad is protected by a nice fitting cover plate with a good reliable hinge (though plastic).I have Overhead Door openers.Their add-on keypad opener has a hinge that is flimsy by comparison, and costs twice as much.
Install the signal receptor first. Then set your PIN using the numeric keypad.Test the keypad at your chosen site for mounting before you screw it in place,I had to fasten it at my second choice location.Mine is on the backside of a porch post, out of site and out of sun and weather.
